Chris Rock

Christopher Julius "Chris" Rock III (born February 7, 1965) is an American comedian, actor, screenwriter, producer, and director. He was selected by Comedy Central as the fifth best stand-up comedian of all time in the United States. At the same time, he was selected as the ninth greatest stand-up comedian in the United Kingdom in Channel 4's Top 100 Stand-Up list in 2007, and again as the eighth greatest stand-up comedian in the updated 2010 list. He is known for his roles in Dogma, Beverly Hills Ninja, The Mask, Nurse Betty, The Longest Yard, Bad Company, and for his leading role in Down to Earth. Rock also began working more behind the camera as a writer and director (and leading actor) in the films Head of State and I Think I Love My Wife. In the fall of 2005, the UPN television network premiered a comedy series titled Everyone Hates Chris, based on Rock's school days, in which he was the executive producer and narrator. The show achieved both critical and ratings success. The series was nominated for the 2006 Golden Globe Award for Best TV Series (Musical or Comedy), the 2006 People's Choice Award for Favorite New Television Comedy, and two 2006 Emmy Awards in the categories of costume design and cinematography. After the release of his first documentary, Good Hair, in 2009, Rock is working on a documentary about debt titled The Devil We Know. In 2010, he played a role alongside Adam Sandler in Grown-ups and alongside comedian/actor Martin Lawrence in the remake of the British film Death at a Funeral.
