Fatoş Sezer

Fatoş Sezer (January 31, 1958 – June 1, 2011) was a Turkish actress. Fatoş Sezer was born in 1958 as the youngest of three children in Gölcük, Kocaeli. Her mother and father were Polish immigrants who had fled to Turkey during World War II. Sezer's father died when she was six years old; her mother passed away four years later. She married her first husband at the age of 17. In 1980, she began her modeling career and also that same year started taking acting, dance, and custom design classes at Bilsak Theatre. Four years later, she made her film debut with the roles of Gönlüm ve Ben. Subsequently, before moving to Paris to continue her education, she entered into a relationship with theatre actor Beklan Algan. She studied French language and literature at Sorbonne College. Sezer married director Mehmet Ulusoy in Paris in 1986. Later, she joined the team of Theatre de Liberte, which was founded by Ulusoy. In the second half of the 1980s, Sezer appeared in many films directed by Halit Refiğ. For her role in Refiğ's 1987 film Kurtar Beni, she was awarded Best Supporting Actress at the 25th Antalya Orange Film Festival. At the beginning of the 1990s, she turned back to theatre and appeared in plays directed by her husband, Mehmet Ulusoy. In 1994, she divorced Mehmet Ulusoy and began a relationship with Selçuk Gerede, the son of Hüsrev Gerede. Towards the end of her career, Sezer participated in various television productions and served as artistic director for magazines such as Rugby Türkiye and Auto Türkiye. Fatoş Sezer passed away at the age of 53 due to a heart attack she suffered while asleep in her home in Kurtuluş on June 1, 2011. Her funeral was held the following day at Şişli Mosque, and her remains were buried in Edirnekapı Sakızağacı Cemetery.
