Luis Guzmán

Born on August 28, 1956, in Cayey, Puerto Rico, and raised in New York's Lower East Side neighborhood, Luis Guzmán is one of the most renowned and beloved Puerto Rican-American character actors in cinema and television. Before embarking on his acting career, Guzmán worked for many years as a social services worker and was also an activist; he launched his career with theater performances staged on New York streets. This background imparted a raw and realistic energy to his roles that set him apart from his peers. Beginning his career in the 1980s with small parts, Guzmán's first significant performance that drew attention came in Brian De Palma's 1993 cult classic "Carlito's Way," where he played Pachanga, the loyal yet dangerous friend of Al Pacino's character.
