Mike Hagerty

Michael Gerard Hagerty (May 10, 1954 – May 5, 2022) was an American actor. He was known for portraying blue-collar workers in comedies; this included his roles as Mr. Treeger, the building superintendent in the series Friends, and the manager of a muffler shop in HBO's Lucky Louie. Hagerty began his acting career after being invited to join the improvisational group The Second City by Jim Belushi. In the 1980s, he co-wrote and starred in three revues at the group's main stage (also featured in the book Without a Title: A Retrospective, Good Ending Orwell, and True Midwest or I Saw the Movie but No). He also introduced the cast to the lyrics of the song "Bear Down, Chicago Bears" and taught them to memorize and perform it. Later, starting with Doctor Detroit in 1983, he began appearing in films and television programs. Hagerty was known for his mustache and thick Chicago accent. Although a large part of his career was spent on television, Hagerty also took on small roles in many films, ultimately amassing more than 100 acting credits throughout his career. He became well-known for his small character roles in a wide variety of popular comedies such as Martin, Cheers, The Wayans Bros., Curb Your Enthusiasm, Friends, Seinfeld, and The Wonder Years. He was one of the twenty actors who appeared in both Friends and Seinfeld. Hagerty was also a regular on The George Carlin Show, which featured his first recurring television role. One of his final acting roles was in Somebody Somewhere, whose filming continued even as he passed away.
