Saul Rubinek

Saul Rubinek (born July 2, 1948) is a German-born Canadian actor, director, producer, and playwright. He is best known for his television roles, particularly as Artie Nielsen in Warehouse 13, Donny Douglas in Frasier, Lon Cohen in A Nero Wolfe Mystery, and Louis B. Mayer in The Last Tycoon. He also appeared in films such as Against All Odds (1984), Wall Street (1987), The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990), Unforgiven (1992), Nixon (1995), True Romance (1993), The Express (2008), Barney's Version (2010), and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018). Rubinek was born in the town of Föhrenwald, Germany, in 1948. His family were Polish Jews who were sheltered by Polish farmers during World War II; they later emigrated to Canada after the war. Rubinek began his acting career in theater and appeared in various productions at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and Theatre Passe Muraille. He made his television debut in 1977 as a guest star on the series Baretta. In 1984, Rubinek starred in the film Against All Odds, followed by roles in Wall Street (1987), The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990), and Unforgiven (1992). In 1995, he appeared in Nixon, where his performance received widespread acclaim and earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture. In 1998, Rubinek directed his first feature film, Jerry and Tom, which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. From 2009 to 2014, Rubinek played Artie Nielsen in the Syfy series Warehouse 13, a critically and commercially successful show that ran for five seasons. In 2013, he portrayed Louis B. Mayer in the Amazon Prime series The Last Tycoon, which was adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel of the same name. Rubinek has been nominated for the Genie Award five times and won Best Supporting Actor for his role in Ticket to Heaven (1981). He has also been nominated twice for a Gemini Award. Rubinek is married to playwright and producer Elinor Reid, and they have two children.
