'Çilekeş' tells the story of a man who shakes his life between two extremes after losing the woman he loves. Initially, the viewer feels the internal conflict of the character and the allure of the criminal world; but the film turns it into a tragedy that forces him to seek a living with an ordinary voice. It is impressive that the leading actor reflects his inner storms with silent looks and a shaky voice. The director sweeps cityscapes in cold tones, while soft musical pieces in cutscenes emphasize the character's loneliness. While camera movements convey the feeling of conviction to the audience, long takes in some scenes slow down the tempo. The most striking aspect of the script is that it tries to deal with the themes of love, crime and sacrifice within the same framework. Although the conflicts sometimes feel over-the-top, it manages to strike a fine balance between emotional intensity and realism. While the film makes the audience share the despair of the character, the melancholic impression it leaves at the end remains in the memory for a long time.
