Biography

Alan Michael Ritchson was born on November 28, 1982, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, USA. The son of a retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant and a high school teacher, Ritchson spent his childhood in various cities due to his father's postings before his family finally settled in Niceville, Florida. Starting his career by modeling for brands like Abercrombie & Fitch, Ritchson gained his first major screen attention by participating in the third season of the popular talent competition "American Idol" in 2004. He made his biggest breakthrough in his acting career with the role of Arthur Curry (Aquaman) in the popular CW series "Smallville" (2005-2010). With this role, he became the first actor to portray Aquaman in a live-action television production. By the 2010s, Ritchson took on the role of Thad Castle, captain of the American football team, in the cult comedy series "Blue Mountain State" (2010-2011), successfully bringing the character's exaggerated and comedic nature to life on screen. He reprised this role in the 2016 film "Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland." Demonstrating a steady rise in his cinema career, the actor portrayed the Gloss character in the box office record-breaking dystopian action film "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" (2013). Subsequently, he brought life to the fierce turtle Raphael using motion capture technology in the 2014 film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and its 2016 sequel "Out of the Shadows." In the DC Universe series "Titans" (2018-2021), where he portrayed the superhero character Hank Hall (Hawk), Ritchson once again proved his success in the superhero genre, marking a powerful return to television. The project that transformed Alan Ritchson into a global star and propelled his career to its peak was the Amazon Prime Video series "Reacher" (2022-present), adapted from Lee Child's famous novel series. The physical presence, intelligence, and charismatic interpretation he brought to the retired military police character Jack Reacher earned him full marks from both critics and book fans, making the series one of the platform's most-watched productions. Following this massive success, Ritchson, now considered one of Hollywood's sought-after action stars, solidified his place in box office films with his role as Agent Aimes in "Fast X" (2023) and his performance in Guy Ritchie's directed film "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" (2024). In addition to acting, Ritchson has also demonstrated his talents behind the camera, serving as director, co-writer, and producer for the 2021 comedy-thriller film "Dark Web: Cicada 3301." Having been closely involved with music since his youth, the actor also released an independent music album titled "This Is Next Time" (2006) at the beginning of his career.
