Biography
William Bradley Pitt (born December 18, 1963, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, USA) is an American actor and film producer. Through his production company Plan B Entertainment, he has won numerous awards, including an Academy Award and a Primetime Emmy Award as a producer, as well as two Golden Globe Awards and an Academy Award for acting. Shortly before graduating from the journalism department of the University of Missouri, he left for Hollywood to pursue his long-held dream of an acting career, telling his family he would attend an art school in Pasadena. After working various promotional jobs, including driving limousines while wearing chicken costumes, he began taking small roles in television series such as Dallas and Another World. He gained attention with a role in the low-budget film Cutting Class in 1989. Two years later, he received a fifteen-minute role in Thelma & Louise, which led People Magazine to name him "Sexiest Man Alive." His first leading performances in high-budget productions were demonstrated through the drama films A River Runs Through It (1992) and Legends of the Fall (1994), as well as the horror film Interview with the Vampire (1994).
In the crime thriller "Seven" (1995) and the science fiction film "12 Monkeys" (1995), he delivered performances praised by critics; his role in 12 Monkeys earned him nominations for Best Supporting Actor at both the Golden Globe Awards and the Academy Awards. Pitt starred in the cult classic "Fight Club" (1999) and the heist film franchise beginning with "Ocean's Eleven" (2001), followed by "Ocean's Twelve" (2004) and "Ocean's Thirteen" (2007). His greatest box office successes include "Ocean's Eleven" (2001), "Troy" (2004), "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" (2005), "World War Z" (2013), and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" (2019). His performance in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" earned him his second Golden Globe Award and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Other films featuring Pitt's Oscar-nominated performances include "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (2008) and "Moneyball" (2011). He also produced "The Departed" (2006) and "12 Years a Slave" (2013), both of which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Additionally, he produced "The Tree of Life" (2011), "Moneyball" (2011), and "The Big Short" (2015), all of which were nominated for Best Picture.
As a public figure, Pitt is portrayed as one of the most influential and powerful individuals in the American entertainment industry. For several years, various media outlets depicted him as the world's most eligible bachelor, making his private life a major tabloid topic. He was married to actress Jennifer Aniston from 2000 to 2005; he married actress Angelina Jolie in 2014; and they legally separated in 2019. Pitt and Jolie have six children together: one adopted from Africa, two adopted from Asia, and three biological children.
