Biography

Jared Francis Harris was born on August 24, 1961, in London, England.
Harris is the second of three sons of the legendary Irish actor Richard Harris and actress Elizabeth Rees-Williams, hailing from a distinguished artistic family.
His brothers are Damian Harris, a director, and Jamie Harris, an actor like himself.
Spending his childhood in England, Harris moved to the United States for university education and graduated from Duke University.
He then returned to London to complete his acting training at the prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama.
Early in his career, he performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company, establishing a solid foundation rooted in theatre.
His first notable breakthrough in cinema came in 1996's biographical film "I Shot Andy Warhol," in which he portrayed the iconic artist Andy Warhol.
This role signaled his early success as a character actor.
At the end of the 1990s and into the early 2000s, he appeared in supporting roles across various genres in films such as "Happiness" (1998), "Mr. Deeds" (2002), and "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" (2004).
He also left a lasting impression with his portrayal of Captain Mike in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (2008).

The production that truly made Jared Harris a television star and demonstrated his talent to a wide audience was AMC's cult series "Mad Men" (2009–2012). The tragic character of Lane Pryce, the English finance director he portrayed in the series, earned him his first Primetime Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Following this success, he showcased his versatility by playing the villain David Robert Jones in the science fiction series "Fringe" (2008–2012). In cinema, he took on the role of Professor Moriarty, Sherlock's eternal nemesis, in Guy Ritchie's box-office hit "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" (2011), appearing as the main villain in a major commercial success. He also brought General Ulysses S. Grant to life in Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" (2012). Harris's second major career leap came with historical dramas. His performance as King George VI in Netflix's award-winning series "The Crown" (2016–2017) received full marks from critics. However, the peak of his career was HBO's acclaimed miniseries "Chernobyl" (2019). His portrayal of Soviet scientist Valery Legasov in this role won him a BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor and earned him another Emmy nomination.

In recent years, the actor, who has focused on science fiction and thriller genres, took the lead role as Captain Francis Crozier in AMC's anthology series "The Terror" (2018). In Apple TV+'s series "Foundation" (2021–), adapted from Isaac Asimov's works, he appeared to the audience as the character mathematician Hari Seldon. Harris, who emerged from his father's shadow and established his own name as a brand, is known for portraying complex, intelligent, and often authoritative characters with depth.
