Biography

Josh Brolin was born on February 12, 1968, in Santa Monica, California. The son of famous actor James Brolin and wildlife activist Jane Cameron Agee, Brolin grew up in the heart of Hollywood but attempted to distance himself from acting during his youth by displaying a rebellious attitude. However, he began to develop an interest in this art form through improvisation classes he took during high school. He made a rapid entry into his career with the role of Brand Walsh's older brother in "The Goonies" (1985), one of cinema history's most beloved cult classics. Following this early success, he appeared in television series and low-budget films for many years; his portrayal of Wild Bill Hickok in the series "The Young Riders" (1989–1992) was one of the standout works of that period. The true turning point in Brolin's career and the year that propelled him into Hollywood's A-list was 2007. He received widespread acclaim from critics for his portrayal of Llewelyn Moss in the Coen Brothers' masterpiece "No Country for Old Men." In the same year, he further proved his mettle by appearing in Ridley Scott's "American Gangster." This momentum continued with Oliver Stone's biographical film "W." (2008), in which he played U.S. President George W.

He continued with his portrayal of Bush and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Dan White in Gus Van Sant's "Milk" (2008). In the 2010s, he solidified his position as a versatile actor both in independent cinema and in box office record-breaking franchises. He garnered attention with his tough and charismatic roles in productions such as "True Grit" (2010), "Inherent Vice" (2014), and the thriller "Sicario" (2015) directed by Denis Villeneuve. However, the role that propelled him to the pinnacle of modern popular culture was his portrayal of the "Mad Titan" Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Through motion capture technology, the Thanos he brought to life became one of cinema's most iconic villains through his appearances in "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018) and "Avengers: Endgame" (2019). Interestingly, during the same period, he also portrayed the time-traveling soldier Cable in another corner of the Marvel universe, "Deadpool 2" (2018).

Brolin, who has maintained his success in science fiction and western genres in recent years, reunited with Denis Villeneuve to bring Gurney Halleck to life in the epic science fiction films "Dune: Part One" (2021) and its sequel "Dune: Part Two" (2024). Additionally, he starred as a lead actor and served as a producer for Amazon Prime Video's mysterious western series "Outer Range" (2022–present). Throughout his career, Josh Brolin has become one of the rare talents who evolved from youthful stardom to character acting and ultimately into a global action star.
