Biography
Michael Cudlitz was born on December 29, 1964, in Long Island, New York.
Cudlitz spent his childhood in New Jersey and grounded his passion for acting on an academic foundation by graduating from the prestigious California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).
At the beginning of his career, working both in front of and behind the camera, he began building his acting career while serving as a construction coordinator on the set of the series "Beverly Hills, 90210."
One of his first significant breakthroughs in cinema came with the film "A River Runs Through It" (1992), in which he starred alongside Brad Pitt.
This was followed by films such as "Grosse Pointe Blank" (1997) and "The Negotiator" (1998).
However, the first major turning point in Cudlitz's career was his portrayal of Corporal Denver "Bull" Randleman in HBO's World War II-themed cult miniseries "Band of Brothers" (2001).
This role, etched in memory for its grit and unyielding demeanor, demonstrated his ability to portray tough yet trustworthy characters.
The project that truly proved his mettle in the television world was the critically acclaimed police drama "Southland" (2009–2013).
His portrayal of senior police officer John Cooper, a character grappling with both physical and emotional challenges in the series, earned him a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor and demonstrated the breadth of his acting range. The role that transformed Michael Cudlitz into a global pop culture icon came with his casting in AMC's hit series "The Walking Dead" (2014–2017). In the show, his character, Corporal Abraham Ford, became one of the series' most beloved figures thanks to his distinctive red mustache, military discipline, and iconic lines. After leaving the series, he moved behind the camera and began directing episodes of "The Walking Dead" and other productions. In the later phase of his career, Cudlitz showcased his comedic talents in the sitcom "The Kids Are All Right" (2018–2019) and brought Paul Krendler to life in the sequel series "Clarice" (2021). Most recently, he continues his career with a powerful role as the iconic villain Lex Luthor in DC's popular series "Superman & Lois."
Michael Cudlitz is a versatile actor known for both his success in roles with dramatic depth and his physical command in action roles.
