Biography

Richard Brake was born on 30 November 1964 in Ystrad Mynach, Wales.
Brake emigrated to the United States with his family at a very young age and grew up in different states such as North Carolina, Tennessee, and Ohio.
After completing his acting training at the legendary Actors Studio, Brake quickly became one of the sought-after character actors due to his mastery of both American and British accents and his distinctive, sharp facial features.
He began his career in the early 1990s with supporting roles in various television series and films.
His first major role that brought him widespread recognition in the film world was as Joe Chill, the criminal who inadvertently causes the birth of Batman by killing Bruce Wayne's family, in Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins" (2005).
Despite its short runtime, this pivotal role, which forms the foundation of the story, held significant importance in his career.
He then solidified his success in villainous roles with the character Enramas Dortlich in "Hannibal Rising" (2007).

The process that turned Richard Brake into a cult icon for horror cinema fans began with his creative partnership with director Rob Zombie. This collaboration, which started with the role of Gary Scott in "Halloween II" (2009), reached its peak with the film "31" (2016). The sadist mercenary killer character Doom-Head he portrayed in that film, and especially his monologue performance at the beginning of the movie, was regarded as one of the most terrifying performances in modern horror cinema. He continued working with Zombie on the films "3 from Hell" (2019) and "The Munsters" (2022). In the world of television, he made history as the first actor to portray Night King, the series' greatest villain, in the globally phenomenon series "Game of Thrones." In seasons 4 and 5, beneath heavy makeup and prosthetics, he established the character's terrifying foundation without speaking, relying solely on his icy gaze. Even though he later handed over the role to another actor, Brake was the one who created the iconic stance of the character. Recently, he stepped into the "Star Wars" universe with the role of Imperial Officer Valin Hess in the second season of "The Mandalorian," earning widespread acclaim for his tension-filled performance.

He also played a key role in the surprise hit horror film "Barbarian" from 2022. Richard Brake, who has appeared in big-budget productions such as "Thor: The Dark World" (2013) and "Kingsman: The Secret Service" (2014), maintains his unique place in cinema and television through roles as a psychopath, menacing figure, or authoritarian villain.
