Biography
Sarah Niles was born in London, England, in 1987. The child of a family of Barbadian descent, Niles grew up in south London. From a young age, she developed an interest in acting and strengthened this passion with academic training, studying at the Manchester School of Theatre. Following her graduation, she began her career on prestigious stages across England. During the early phase of her career, primarily focused on theatre, Niles performed with companies such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal Court Theatre, The Old Vic, and the National Theatre. Recognized and respected in theatrical circles for her powerful performances in both classic and contemporary plays, she gained prominence during this period, particularly through roles in productions like *The Crucible* and *Three Sisters*. Parallel to her theatre work, Niles also ventured into television, taking on various roles in popular British series including *Doctor Who*, *Broadchurch*, and *Spotless*.
Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney's comedy series "Catastrophe" brought her Melissa character to wider audiences, while Michaela Coel's highly acclaimed 2020 series "I May Destroy You" featured her as Officer Funmi. However, the role that truly propelled Sarah Niles to international fame was Dr. Sharon Fieldstone, the sports psychologist hired to support AFC Richmond in Apple TV+'s global phenomenon "Ted Lasso," which she joined for its second season in 2021. Her intelligent, professional character, who occasionally challenged Ted's excessive optimism, earned her full marks from both audiences and critics. This performance earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2022, marking a turning point in her career. Following her success in "Ted Lasso," Niles increased her Hollywood visibility and continues to thrive in both television and film with diverse projects such as the 2023 superhero comedy "The Toxic Avenger" and "The Doll Factory."
