Biography
Sophie Wilde was born on 5 July 1997 in Sydney, Australia.
The daughter of a father from Côte d'Ivoire and an Australian mother, Wilde grew up in a multicultural household.
From childhood, the actress showed an interest in storytelling and theatre; she studied at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), one of Australia's most prestigious acting schools, and graduated in 2019.
Immediately upon graduating from an institution that trains legends such as Cate Blanchett and Mel Gibson, she captured the industry's attention with her talent.
Wilde launched her professional career quickly, securing her first significant role in the Australian mystery series "Eden" (2021).
Following this local success, she appeared before an international audience as the enigmatic Kyra in the BBC and Netflix co-produced crime drama "You Don't Know Me" (2021).
Demonstrating her adaptability to period films and fantasy genres, the young actress portrayed Sophia Western in the miniseries adaptation of Henry Fielding's classic novel "Tom Jones" (2023) and starred alongside seasoned actors Christoph Waltz and Sam Neill in the film "The Portable Door" (2023).
However, the project that marked a turning point in Sophie Wilde's career and propelled her to global fame was "Talk to Me" (2022), an independent horror hit directed by Danny and Michael Philippou for A24. In the film, she portrayed Mia, a character grieving her mother's death who communicates with spirits through a mummified hand. Wilde's chilling and emotionally profound performance in this film received widespread acclaim from critics, was hailed as "the best horror performance of the year," and earned her an AACTA Award. Following this major success, she took the lead role as Mia Polanco, a character struggling with an eating disorder and trying to reclaim her life, in Netflix's youth drama "Everything Now" (2023), showcasing her dramatic talent. In 2024, she portrayed journalist Caitlyn Spies in the highly acclaimed series "Boy Swallows Universe," adapted from Trent Dalton's best-selling novel.
Wilde rapidly climbed the career ladder, solidifying her place in Hollywood with the film "Babygirl" (2024), in which she shares the lead role with Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson, while also being selected for the lead role in the cinematic adaptation of the popular video game "Watch Dogs."
