Biography

Titus B. Welliver was born on March 12, 1962, in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. The son of renowned landscape painter Neil Welliver, Titus grew up immersed in art within a creative environment. After receiving drama training at New York University, he embarked on his professional acting career in the early 1990s. In his early years, he took on supporting roles in films such as "Navy SEALs" (1990), "The Doors" (1991), and "Mobsters" (1991). However, Welliver became known for a significant portion of his career as one of the most reliable and versatile character actors in television. He gained experience through recurring roles in series produced by Steven Bochco, including "NYPD Blue" and "Brooklyn South." His first major breakthrough that established him as a lasting name in the television world came with his portrayal of the cunning and pragmatic Silas Adams in HBO's critically acclaimed western series "Deadwood" (2004–2006). This role showcased his ability to portray tough and authoritative characters. Subsequently, he gained widespread recognition by bringing to life the mysterious "Man in Black", one of the main antagonists, in the final seasons of the global phenomenon "Lost" (2009–2010).

He reinforced his television success with roles as Irish arms dealer Jimmy O'Phelan in "Sons of Anarchy" (2010) and State's Attorney Glenn Childs in "The Good Wife" (2009–2011). In his film career, his strong collaboration with director Ben Affleck stands out. He appeared in films directed by Affleck, including "Gone Baby Gone" (2007), "The Town" (2010), the Oscar-winning "Argo" (2012), and "Live by Night" (2016). Additionally, he played the character Savoy in Michael Bay's blockbuster action film "Transformers: Age of Extinction" (2014). The project that marked the peak of Titus Welliver's career and established him as a leading actor was the crime drama "Bosch" (2014–2021), adapted from best-selling novels by Michael Connelly. This series, in which he portrayed LAPD detective Harry Bosch, became one of Amazon's longest-running shows. Welliver delivered his most iconic performance, infusing the character—a jazz enthusiast who bends rules but never loses his sense of justice—with depth and credibility.

He continues to carry on the character's story with the sequel series "Bosch: Legacy" (2022–). Additionally, in the near future, he portrayed an Imperial captain in the series "The Mandalorian" (2020) as part of the Star Wars universe.
