Biography

David John Bradley was born on 17 April 1942 in York, Yorkshire, England.
Bradley began his career in 1971 by joining Laurence Olivier's National Theatre and went on to perform in some of the most prestigious stages of English theatre over many years, notably with the Royal Shakespeare Company, taking roles in classic plays.
His mastery on stage was recognized in 1991 when he won the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award for his portrayal of the Fool character in "King Lear".
His recognition by wide audiences in cinema and television came later in life through unforgettable character roles in iconic series.
His first major role that brought him global fame was as Argus Filch, the grumpy, cat-obsessed, rule-abiding housekeeper at Hogwarts, in J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" film series (2001–2011), which brought her magical world to the big screen.
He etched this character into the memory of a generation through his portrayal across eight films.
Bradley further cemented his place in popular culture with his role as Lord Walder Frey in HBO's phenomenon series "Game of Thrones".

One of the most shocking and talked-about moments in the series was the "Red Wedding," an event for which this character was the architect; he portrayed him so convincingly and cunningly that he became one of the most memorable villains in television history. He continued his success in the fantasy and science fiction genres with the role of Professor Abraham Setrakian, a vampire hunter, in Guillermo del Toro's "The Strain" (2014–2017), delivering a performance that combined wisdom and determination. The master actor also holds a special place in the universe of the cult British television series "Doctor Who," where he played William Hartnell, who portrayed the First Doctor, in the film "An Adventure in Space and Time" (2013) prepared for the show's 50th anniversary; he later took on the role of the First Doctor himself within the series, inheriting this legacy. Additionally, he won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2014 for his performance in the police procedural drama "Broadchurch." Bradley also appeared in films such as Edgar Wright's "Hot Fuzz" (2007) and "The World's End" (2013), and most recently, he voiced Geppetto the master in Guillermo del Toro's Oscar-winning animated film "Pinocchio" (2022).

David Bradley, who combines the discipline of classical theatre with some of the biggest franchises of modern popular culture, is one of England's most respected character actors.
