Biography

Nicole Evangeline Lilly was born on August 3, 1979, in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada. Her father was a home economics teacher, and her mother was a beauty specialist. Growing up and spending her youth in British Columbia, Lilly developed an interest in human rights and global issues during her university years, where she studied international relations at the University of British Columbia and established a committee in this field. Before embarking on her acting career, she worked in various roles, including missionary work, in the Philippines for a short period. Her entry into the world of acting was serendipitous; while walking on the streets of Kelowna, she was discovered by the renowned Ford Modeling Agency. Although she initially did not wish to pursue modeling, she entered an agreement with the agency to cover her university education expenses. She began her career in minor, uncredited roles in television series such as "Smallville" and films like "Freddy vs. Jason" (2003). The role that transformed Lilly into a global superstar and marked a turning point in her career came with the phenomenon series "Lost" (2004–2010), created by J.J. Abrams. The enigmatic and powerful character she portrayed, Kate Austen, instantly made her one of the most recognizable faces in the world.

This performance earned her numerous awards and nominations, including a Golden Globe nomination. Following the significant success brought by "Lost," Lilly focused on her film career, starring in notable productions such as Oscar-winning "The Hurt Locker" (2008) and sharing the lead role with Hugh Jackman in "Real Steel" (2011). A new chapter in her career began with Peter Jackson's directed "Hobbit" trilogy. In the series' films "Smaug's Desolate Lands" (2013) and "The Battle of Five Armies" (2014), she portrayed Tauriel, an elf warrior character created specifically for the films and not present in the books. This role further demonstrated her talent in the action genre. Shortly thereafter, she joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, bringing Hope van Dyne, also known as Wasp, to life in box office record-breakers such as "Ant-Man" (2015), "Ant-Man and the Wasp" (2018), and "Avengers: Endgame" (2019). With this role, she became one of the significant female figures in modern superhero cinema. In addition to acting, Lilly is also engaged in writing. She has authored a children's book series titled "The Squickerwonkers."

In 2024, he announced that he was stepping away from acting to dedicate more time to his family, humanitarian work, and writing.
