Biography

Katherine Boyer Waterston was born on March 3, 1980, in Westminster, London.
Growing up in a family immersed in the arts, Waterston is the daughter of the legendary American actor Sam Waterston.
Driven by her passion for acting, she graduated from the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
Her career began in the mid-2000s with small roles in New York theatre productions and independent films.
Although she appeared briefly in acclaimed films such as "Michael Clayton" (2007), she spent nearly a decade steadily honing her craft, focusing primarily on theatre to gain experience.
A turning point in Katherine Waterston's career came with Paul Thomas Anderson's 2014 film "Inherent Vice," directed by the master filmmaker.
In this film, she portrayed the enigmatic and captivating character Shasta Fay Hepworth, earning critical acclaim and widespread recognition in the film industry.
This role opened doors for her to secure coveted leading parts.
Following this major breakthrough, her career rapidly ascended.
In 2015, she played Chrisann Brennan, Steve Jobs' former lover, in Danny Boyle's film "Steve Jobs."

However, one of the most significant steps in transforming her into a global star was the "Fantastic Beasts" series set within J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World universe. Through her portrayal of the intelligent and determined witch Porpentina "Tina" Goldstein in the 2016 film "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" and its sequels, she became a familiar face to millions of viewers. During the same period, she proved her capabilities in science fiction and action genres by taking on the lead role in Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant" (2017). Alongside big-budget productions, Waterston remained faithful to her roots in independent cinema, appearing in critically acclaimed dramas such as "The World to Come" (2020). In recent years, she has continued her career as a versatile actor with roles in Damien Chazelle's "Babylon" (2022) and the second season of HBO's successful series "Perry Mason" (2023).
