Biography

Paul Ben-Victor was born on July 24, 1965, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.
As the son of an actress mother and a businessman father, Ben-Victor grew up in an environment conducive to the arts and laid a solid foundation for his acting career by completing his education at the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University.
The actor entered the worlds of television and cinema in the late 1980s, taking on small but memorable roles in notable early works such as "True Romance" (1993) and "Tombstone" (1993).
Thanks to his distinctive facial features, commanding presence, and versatile acting abilities, he quickly became one of Hollywood's most sought-after character actors, specializing in portraying mafia members, detectives, and authority figures.
His greatest breakthrough in television and the undisputed most iconic role of his career came with Spiros "Vondas" Vondopoulos in HBO's "The Wire" (2003–2008), a series widely regarded as one of the greatest ever made.
His portrayal of Vondas—a cunning, ruthless, and cool-headed criminal—earned him widespread acclaim from critics.

Following this dark role, he once again portrayed Alan Gray, an erratic, rule-breaking, and power-driven head of a film studio, in HBO's hit series "Entourage" (2005-2008), showcasing his talent for both comedy and drama simultaneously. He continued his steady rise in his career by taking the lead role in the USA Network series "In Plain Sight" (2008-2012). The tough yet fatherly character of Chief Inspector Stan McQueen he portrayed won him the affection of a wide audience. Throughout his career spanning over thirty years, he took on significant roles in countless popular television series such as "NYPD Blue", "CSI", "The Shield", and HBO's period drama "Vinyl" (2016), becoming one of the familiar and indispensable faces on screen. In the world of cinema, this experienced actor also had the opportunity to work with masterful names, bringing Jake Gottlieb to life in Martin Scorsese's epic crime masterpiece "The Irishman" (2019). Recently, Ben-Victor has continued to appear in high-profile productions, including the popular miniseries "Pam & Tommy" (2022) and the action-thriller film "Plane" starring Gerard Butler (2023).

Paul Ben-Victor, who has appeared in over 150 series and films to date, continues his active career in the industry as one of the most productive and reliable character actors in the American film and television sector.
