Following her father's sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself thrust into the harsh environment of a state-run school, where she must cope with a bullying scandal that shakes her community and spreads rapidly, alongside the relentless pressure and indifferent cruelty of the social media era, as well as the awakening of her mysterious telekinetic powers during adolescence.
In this Mike Flanagan-directed production, themes of adolescent trauma and bullying are explored in depth, examining the dark repercussions of digital oppression wrought by social media. The characters' internal conflicts and awakening telekinetic powers are depicted not merely as a physical threat but also as a psychological burden. While maintaining narrative momentum that sustains tension, the film demonstrates consistent character development. Flanagan successfully conveys the cold atmosphere of high school life and the destructive impact of surrounding negativity through compelling storytelling. Thematic coherence is strong throughout, with mystery elements intrinsic to the genre seamlessly integrated into the dramatic flow.
