Reviewed by

The film examines human relationships and trauma by depicting a brief period following the destruction caused by the Hiroshima bomb. Its narrative structure features a powerful framework that illustrates how characters' past memories of love intersect with their present circumstances. The tempo, marked by sudden pauses in the flow of events, emphasizes the characters' internal conflicts and prompts the audience to engage in deep reflection. In terms of language usage, a successful balance is achieved between dramatic tension and romantic atmosphere, while thematic consistency is maintained through the connection drawn between the search for peace and the process of personal mourning. The actors' performances, particularly Emmanuelle Riva's profound inner depth, support these structural elements and carry the film's emotional weight.
