The dramatic narrative set in Victorian England explores the arduous life of Merrick, who possesses a deformed body, within his traveling troupe, and the new world opened through Dr. Treves' intervention. The film critiques societal perspectives by interrogating the contradiction between a character's inner beauty and outward appearance. Black-and-white cinematography and a melancholic atmosphere reflect the era's cold reality while intensifying the story's emotional weight. The narrative structure progresses through Merrick's cultural development and his relationships with his surroundings, maintaining a balanced pace. Characters' behaviors shifting according to their social status concretize concepts of good and evil within human nature. Structural consistency, derived from the summary, is supported by the fluidity of the plotline, though surprises in the finale or scenes of large-scale death are not elaborated upon.
