Andrew Clement Serkis was born on 20 April 1964 in Ruislip, Middlesex, England.
The son of an English mother and an Iraqi doctor of Armenian descent, Serkis spent part of his childhood between England and the Middle East.
While studying visual arts at Lancaster University, he turned towards theatre and began his acting career on stage.
In the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s, he gained experience by appearing in various British television series and independent films.
However, it was his portrayal of Gollum in Peter Jackson's legendary "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy (2001–2003) that transformed Andy Serkis into a global star and enabled him to create a true revolution in cinema history.
With this role, he became a pioneer and undisputed master of motion capture technology, completely redefining the boundaries of acting in the digital age.
Following this unique success, he again worked under Peter Jackson's direction in "King Kong" (2005), bringing life to the giant gorilla Kong through his movements and portraying the character Lumpy.
He elevated his genius in motion capture performances to the pinnacle with the role of Caesar in the "Planet of the Apes" starting trilogy (2011–2017), achieving a rare critical success.
Serkis did not limit his talents solely to digital performances; he continued his career with blockbuster films on massive budgets.
In the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, he brought Yüce Lider Snoke to life.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he portrayed the villain Ulysses Klaue in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (2015) and "Black Panther" (2018); in the DC Universe, he appeared as Bruce Wayne's iconic butler and right-hand man, Alfred Pennyworth, in the box office record-breaker "The Batman" (2022).
In the recent Star Wars series "Andor" (2022), which has garnered acclaim, he delivered a powerful dramatic performance as Kino Loy.
In addition to his on-screen acting achievements, Serkis is a co-founder of The Imaginarium Studios, a renowned company specializing in motion capture technology.
In the later stages of his career, the artist also proved himself behind the director's chair, helming productions such as "Breathe" (2017), "Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle" (2018), and the box-office hit "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" (2021). In his personal life, he has been married to actress Lorraine Ashbourne since 2002, and their three children are all pursuing careers in acting.
