Biography
Benjamin Geza Affleck-Boldt was born on August 15, 1972, in Berkeley, California. The son of a teacher mother and a playwright/director father, Affleck spent his childhood years in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with his brother Casey Affleck. It was there that he became a childhood friend of Matt Damon, who would later play a significant role in his career, and began showing an early interest in acting. Affleck gained his first professional experiences as a child actor in commercials and educational programs. During his youth, he started attracting attention by appearing in independent films such as "Dazed and Confused" (1993), Kevin Smith's "Mallrats" (1995), and "Chasing Amy" (1997). The major breakthrough in his career and the event that propelled him to the pinnacle of Hollywood was the film "Good Will Hunting" (1997), which he co-wrote with his childhood friend Matt Damon and starred in. With this film, he won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, becoming the youngest screenwriter to receive this honor. Following this success, Affleck achieved international stardom by starring in high-budget box office hits such as "Armageddon" (1998) and "Pearl Harbor" (2001).
Although he appeared in criticized projects such as "Daredevil" (2003) and "Gigli" (2003) at the turn of the 2000s, he successfully reshaped his career through directing and more dramatic roles. His performance as George Reeves in the 2006 film "Hollywoodland" earned him the Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival and a Golden Globe nomination. However, Ben Affleck's true move to solidify his standing in the film world came when he moved behind the camera. His first directorial effort, "Gone Baby Gone" (2007), received full marks from critics. He continued his success with the crime drama "The Town" (2010), which he both directed and starred in. One of the peaks of his career was the film "Argo" (2012), which he directed and starred in, focusing on the Iranian hostage crisis; this production won an Academy Award for Best Picture. In the latter half of the 2010s, he joined the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), portraying Bruce Wayne / Batman in the films "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" (2016), "Justice League" (2017), and "The Flash" (2023). With this iconic role, he reached a new fan base.
In recent years, he garnered acclaim for his performance in David Fincher's "Gone Girl" (2014) and his action role in Gavin O'Connor's "The Accountant" (2016). Continuing his collaboration with Matt Damon, Affleck wrote the screenplay for and starred in Ridley Scott's "The Last Duel" (2021), and directed and played the lead role in "Air" (2023), a film chronicling Nike's rise. As both an award-winning director and a versatile actor, Affleck remains one of the most influential figures in modern cinema.
