Biography
Ray Fisher was born on September 8, 1987, in Baltimore, Maryland. Growing up in Lawnside, New Jersey, Fisher discovered his interest in performing arts during high school and trained at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) to hone his talents. The actor began his career on stage, gaining experience by performing in classic plays such as "To Kill a Mockingbird" at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. However, the performance that truly opened Hollywood doors to him and transformed his career was his portrayal of boxing legend Muhammad Ali in the 2013 production "Fetch Clay, Make Man," created by New York Theatre Workshop. His physical transformation for this role and powerful stage performance caught the attention of renowned directors Ang Lee and Zack Snyder. Fisher took his first major step into cinema by joining the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). He initially appeared in a cameo role as Victor Stone / Cyborg in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" (2016). He then starred as one of the main heroes in "Justice League" (2017).
Although Fisher's role and story were limited in the film's 2017 theatrical release, he gained global recognition through this character. In the television world, he proved his dramatic acting prowess by portraying Henry Hays alongside Mahershala Ali in HBO's critically acclaimed crime anthology series "True Detective" season three (2019). One of the most significant turning points in Fisher's career was "Zack Snyder's Justice League," released in 2021 due to strong fan demand. In this restored version, which adhered to director Zack Snyder's original vision, Cyborg's tragic backstory and his relationship with his father became the emotional core of the film. Fisher's performance in this version received widespread praise from both critics and audiences, with the character being described as "the heart of the film." Continuing his collaboration with Zack Snyder, Fisher joined the cast of Netflix's epic science fiction film "Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire" (2023), bringing Darrian Bloodaxe, a rebellious leader, to life.
Fisher, who does not forget his theatrical roots, continues his career with diverse projects, including a role in the film adaptation of August Wilson's famous play "The Piano Lesson."
