Biography

Iain Glen was born on 24 June 1961 in Edinburgh, Scotland. After completing his education at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, Glen began his career on stage and quickly became one of the respected figures of British theatre. His bold performance in the play "The Blue Room" (1998), which he shared leading roles with Nicole Kidman, earned him full marks from critics and secured a prestigious Olivier Award nomination. His rise in cinema began with the biographical drama "Gorillas in the Mist" (1988), in which he starred alongside Sigourney Weaver. The project that demonstrated his talent on an international stage was the film "Silent Scream" (1990), for which he won the Silver Bear Award for Best Actor at the Berlin Film Festival. Throughout his career, the Scottish actor has appeared in a wide range of films, from period pieces to action productions, and has also starred in big-budget projects such as "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" (2001) with Angelina Jolie and Ridley Scott's "Kingdom of Heaven" (2005).

However, the role that made Iain Glen one of the most recognizable faces in modern popular culture is Ser Jorah Mormont in HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones" (2011–2019). As an exiled knight, this character captivated audiences with his unwavering loyalty, wisdom, and platonic love for Daenerys Targaryen, becoming one of the few figures to survive throughout all seasons of the series. Simultaneously, he reinforced his success in the action and science fiction genres through his portrayal of the villain Dr. Alexander Isaacs in the popular video game adaptation "Resident Evil" film series (2004–2016). Also highly active in television, Glen drew attention with his role as media mogul Sir Richard Carlisle in "Downton Abbey" (2011) and for bringing a fresh interpretation to the character of elderly Bruce Wayne (Batman) in the DC Universe series "Titans" (2019–2021). Additionally, he garnered praise for his leading performance as the stubborn and rule-breaking private detective Jack Taylor in the Irish crime drama series "Jack Taylor" (2010–2016).

In recent years, he has successfully continued his career by appearing in high-profile productions such as Amazon Prime's thriller series "The Rig" (2023) and Apple TV+'s dystopian series "Silo" (2023).
