Biography

Margaret Constance "Maisie" Williams was born on April 15, 1997, in Bristol, England. The youngest of four children to a university administrator mother and father, Williams grew up in Somerset. Her talent for the performing arts, particularly dance, was noticed at a young age, and she trained at Bath Dance College. She adopted the nickname "Maisie" from a character in the comic strip series *The Perishers*. Her professional acting career began with one of the most striking launches in modern television history. At just 12 years old, she won the role of Arya Stark in HBO's epic fantasy series *Game of Thrones* (2011–2019) at her first audition. Her performance as Arya, a noble girl who transforms into a ruthless assassin, made her one of the youngest stars of the show. Over eight seasons, Williams successfully portrayed the character's physical and emotional development, even taking on a leading role in one of the series' most pivotal moments. For this role, she was nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards and gained a massive global fanbase. While *Game of Thrones* continued, she also proved her mettle in film and other television projects.

She received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Lydia in the 2014 mystery-drama film "The Falling" and was named Best Young British Actress at the London Film Critics Circle Awards. Additionally, she appeared as a guest star playing Ashildr (Me), the immortal Viking girl, in the cult science fiction series "Doctor Who" (2015). She further demonstrated her dramatic talent with the television film "Cyberbully" (2015), which deals with cyberbullying. Following the series, she made bold and unconventional choices in her career. In the horror-themed superhero film set within the X-Men universe, "The New Mutants" (2020), she portrayed Rahne Sinclair (Wolfsbane). She starred as the lead in the dark comedy mini-series "Two Weeks to Live" (2020). In the 2022 series "Pistol," directed by Danny Boyle and centered on the Sex Pistols band, she appeared as Jordan, a punk icon presented with an unrecognizable image. More recently, in the 2024 series "The New Look," which depicts the era of World War II, she portrayed Catherine Dior, sister of Christian Dior and a resistance fighter, delivering one of her most mature performances.

In addition to acting, Williams is an entrepreneur and co-founder of "Daisie," a social media application designed to bring people together in the creative industries. Furthermore, as an active figure in the fashion world, she is also recognized for her work on environmental activism and sustainability.
