Kirby grew up in an intellectual household; her mother was a magazine editor and her father a distinguished urologist.

In 2010, she garnered critical attention with her performances in classic plays such as Arthur Miller's *All My Sons* and Shakespeare's *A Midsummer Night's Dream*, thereby demonstrating her talent on stage.
She received particular acclaim for her portrayal of Stella Kowalski in the play *A Streetcar Named Desire*.
Following her success in theatre, Kirby transitioned to television and film, taking roles in various productions.
However, the role that brought her international fame and marked a turning point in her career was her portrayal of Princess Margaret in Netflix's highly acclaimed series *The Crown* (2016–2017).
Her nuanced and powerful performance as the complex and tragic princess earned her a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress and introduced her to a wide audience.
Following her success in "The Crown," Kirby, who had caught Hollywood's attention, made an ambitious foray into action cinema. She portrayed Alanna Mitsopolis / The White Widow alongside Tom Cruise in "Mission: Impossible – Fallout" (2018) and its sequel, "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One" (2023). Additionally, she solidified her prowess in the action genre by playing Hattie Shaw in "Furious 7: Hobbs & Shaw" (2019), becoming one of the most sought-after faces in the genre. Alongside her rise in action films, Kirby did not shy away from showcasing the depth of her dramatic roles, reaching the pinnacle of her career with her performance in the 2020 film "Pieces of a Woman." In the years that followed, Vanessa Kirby continued her success in the historical drama genre by portraying Empress Joséphine in Ridley Scott's "Napoleon" (2023), and she opened a new chapter in her career by taking on the role of Sue Storm / Invisible Woman in Marvel Cinematic Universe's highly anticipated film "The Fantastic Four: First Steps."
