Biography

Ezra Matthew Miller was born on September 30, 1992, in Wyckoff, New Jersey.
Miller, the child of a modern dancer mother and a publisher father, overcame his childhood speech disorder (stuttering) by receiving opera training, and at the age of six, he performed at the Metropolitan Opera, taking on a role in Philip Glass's "White Raven."
This early stage experience reinforced his interest in art and acting.
He launched his professional film career with Antonio Campos's critically acclaimed independent drama "Afterschool" (2008), in which he portrayed a boarding school student.
The production that truly demonstrated Miller's talent and established him as a "promising young actor" in international film circles was Lynne Ramsay's psychological thriller "We Need to Talk About Kevin" (2011).
In this film, opposite Tilda Swinton, his portrayal of the troubled teenager Kevin garnered significant attention at the Cannes Film Festival and earned him the Chopard Trophy.

Subsequently, he gained widespread acclaim for his portrayal of the eccentric, energetic, and emotional Patrick in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" (2012), an adaptation of Stephen Chbosky's beloved novel, earning him the Spotlight Award at the Hollywood Film Festival. His most significant commercial breakthrough came when he joined two major film universes under Warner Bros.' banner. First, he took on the pivotal role of the enigmatic Credence Barebone in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" (2016), set within J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World. He continued this character across the franchise's sequels, "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" (2018) and "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore" (2022), successfully depicting the character's tragic transformation. During the same period, he joined the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) as Barry Allen / The Flash. Initially appearing in cameo roles in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" (2016) and "Suicide Squad" (2016), Miller later played one of the main heroes in "Justice League" (2017).

His performance in "Zack Snyder's Justice League" (2021), where the character is explored in greater depth, earned him full marks from fans for effectively conveying the character's emotional depth and speed powers. Miller crowned this role with his solo film "The Flash" (2023), which explores the multiverse theme by bringing to life different versions of the character across various timelines simultaneously. In addition to his acting, Miller, who is also interested in music, has served as a vocalist and drummer for the band "Sons of an Illustrious Father." With a career spanning from bold choices in independent cinema to box-office record-breaking fantasy franchises, Ezra Miller stands among the most captivating talents of his generation in the world of cinema.
